SB, "1 Mile Reef", 7/30/06

Hi guys! I finally got the pics from our little fishing outing 2 saturdays ago! A co-worker invited my family and another family to go fishing with him on his boat (he lives on a 36' boat), out at "one mile reef". He's got gps coordinates for this supposed reef, which is (not surprisingly) about one mile out from the Santa Barbara Harbor. We drift by it several times, catching a calico bass, and a few mackerel, then anchor near it where we catch another calico and another mackerel. The best part though was when my 5-year-old daughter caught 2 sharks at the same time on her little freshwater fishing pole! She was using one of my pompano rigs with a 3oz weight, and I believe she had cut squid on both hooks. Unfortunately they were all tangled up, but after cutting the mono in several places and cutting one of the hooks in half, both sharks were returned safely to the waters whence they came!

With the exception of my wife getting sea-sick, and the winch breaking when it was time to haul anchor (can anyone say hello chiropractor?), fun was had by all!

P.S. The first two are the two sharks she caught at the same time, followed by the release of the second shark (the first one was released too, we just didn't get a picture of that). The last picture was my wee little mackerel... not much of a fish compared to my daughter's!
