Redondo / Santa Monica 9/28

Decided to take 2 newbies with me . Got to Redondo Area around 6:30 just when it was starting to gray out. Walked to the jetty. swells where 1-3 foot started fishing 20 mins later i was dropshotting and my 2 friends i set them up with a carolina anchovie. Fished for a few hours there. I got 2 pancakes halibuts. My friends where still skunked by each of them hooked something big which was a drag burner that snapped. With nothing caught with them I decided to take them to Santa Monica for some surf fishing. When we got there off the bat one of friends caught his first BSP. and after there my other friend got his so the skunk was out. We where using Gulp Sandworm. We where getting a steady picking of BSP . All of a sudden my newbie friend hooks a drag burner he didn't know how to fight it so he handed it to me to fight it . Fought the thing for 1 hour on 10lb test line. Walked 50-100 yards down the beach following it. Ended up being a LEO around 20-25 lbs I think TAPPED OUT TO 57"and the crazy thing was was HOOKED ON A GULP SANDWORM CAMO !!!. i was what the heck.
after we fished a few hours got a few more BSP and we was done

TOTAL FOR THE DAY FOR 3 OF US
2 Halibut
25 BSP
1 LEO
3 drag burners never got to see

thanx

Hey, Just looking for some basic knowledge on surf fishing. I was a freshwater Bass, Salmon/steelhead,Cat fisherman. Now I fish regularly on the Freedom and the Spitfire. Not a total newbie.Gear? Line? Rod size? Bait?I'd like to fish as often as possible and live near a beach. Any advice would be appreciated.
