Saturday's planned family venture to San Diego got nixxed because of mild food poisoning. My daughter, Hayley, was extremely disappointed, but was quick to inform me first thing Sunday, that she was feeling fine.
So after checking with the wife (she was back to 110% as well), I got the green light to take Hayley out for the afternoon. Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh...
We made some bait and headed for the go to honey hole. The tide was dropping fast, but I was confident that we'd score something.
After rigging, baiting and casting the two rods, I spent the next few minutes 'searching' for seashells with Hayley, while keeping an eye on the rods. It took about 20 minutes before..tap..tap, tap... Hayley's bit!
It was cool watching her try to wind in the drag puller by herself.
It took a little coaxing, but I finally got her to let me help.
Spotfin baby!
Quickly released it, rebaited and within minutes...bendo #2...a YFC. Here she is meeting her new little friend.
With less than 20 minutes left on the meter, Daddy finally gets a bite! A drag burner on the 6# test.
Can you say "winter time bean"? (photo compliments of my daughter!)
It was a nice dark one. Here's a closer look at the bad boy. I thought it was a bonefish when I first hooked it, but I'll still take a bean.
...and the release.
Sure was nice to see my daughter as peppy as ever and spending some quality time with her. I can't wait to get her out on the big blue sea. :
