Finally Killed That Skunk

After 3 long days of getting skunked I finally killed it!!! On Sunday evening 3/30 Overlook Park in Summerland after a slow start it happened. A nice fight from a 2 pound Perch. It fought so hard I was thinking "Yeah Baby, first Halibut of the season". It just kept taking line and making my spool sing!! Although it wasnt a Halibut it ended up being a very nice surprize!!! Then just after sunset zinggggggggg zingg zinggggggg another runner!! This one has to be a halibut, but another large Perch. This one was about 1.5 pounds. It got too dark and headed home. The following day, Monday evening after work, I decided to visit Santa Claus Lane since I hadnt been there in several weeks. It looked vey good. Near the homes on the West end of the beach there was a very nice size bowl, like the ones that used to be at La Conchita. Further East was the beginning of a very long trough which extended as far as I could see. I started casting in the first smaller bowl and got hit after hit. I took a few smaller Perch from the first bowl. I quickly worked my way East. Something in the trough kept hitting me over and over. Finally "Hook up" and the fight was on. I couldnt stop the run. It was taking line, more line, and even more line. It was running for deeper water. I started moving quickly down the beach picking up whatever line I could and get directly behind it. It worked it was going straight out. I had a solid hook up and very slowly tightened down the drag, a little at a time. It worked it was slowing down and getting tired, and I managed to turn its head. It worked and we were headed back to where we started. I few more short runs and I was able to use the waves to help me land it. It was a beautiful 40 inch smooth nose shark. The sides have this beautiful green color to it while the upper part looked purple. I quick picture and a quick release, then back to the trough. A few more Perch and then my first Halibut of the season. Although it was only about 16-17 inches it was a nice fight. It was too dark by now and time to leave since I needed a shower because the next day was another work day. So with today being my friday you know I will be out there a little longer today, For you tackle nuts I was using my 7.5 foot Celilo Rod with a Cardinal 802 loaded with about 300 yards of #10 braid and a 30 inch #6 flouro leader. Gulp Bloody and Camo sandworm. And Calico Cocktail and my magic mix (WD40 with just a touch of Cailco Cocktail). The Halibut and shark hit a 2 inch bloody sandworm. Sorry about the long report. I will try to download the couple of pictures I took. I wish I had my Get Bent shirt on fo a picture, I just might of won a new reel!!! Happy fishing, Cali Bear

That is always a good feeling. I hate not knowing if there is no fish or it's me.
