El Porto con los Cubanos!
We hit El Porto at low tide this morning. We got a late start because someone of Cuban descent partied a little too heartily the night before. (I guess it was his birthday….who knew???). It was great being there at low tide and being able to walk all the sandbars and eyeball all the holes and troughs that we’re usually spotting from shore. There was that old familiar trough that runs from one jetty to the other, as well as that big old hole about halfway between the two. It was fun just being out there on the sandbars.
It was slow, but not hopeless. We started out thowing the LCs, and Oscar’s friend Rick landed a barely legal ‘butt. We taped it, and it was good by about 1/2". Oscar switched to a big hammer, and we smeared a little ‘butt juice on it. Whamo, instant hook-up on perchzilla.
I started thinking I was going to have the stink on me, but I switched over to the crack on a double-dropper loop. I started getting tapped by the little perchies right away. I ended up with four of the little guys.
Afterwards a great carne asada burrito at El Tarasco in El Segundo.
