NAS Point Magu 4/20/08
Booyaa..... My first report in a long time! went to Magu with Terry (Wavehopper). we arrived at around 9 am and decided to fish the beach area. after several hours there with only one batray between the ywo of us we decided to go try what they call the circle. during the low tide at the circle there is a nice channel caused by a sandbar between the open ocean and the lagoon.
after soaking the first cast at the channel for about 5 minutes.....bam im on!!!! this thing was pulling some serious drag on my eb80. it even breached the surface about fifty yards away but i still couldnt tell what it was. finally after a nice fight i get it to the edge of the sandbar and get my first look. it was a 48" leopard shark! finally after 4 years of trying to get one these i get one when i least expect it!
after i got finished i baited up0 and got back out there. a short time later bam im on again. another one ripping drag! this time it tured out to be a nice sized shovelnose.
i was also able to land a much smaller leopard and hooked another large shovelnose but the last one came unbuttoned at my feet.
what i dont understand..... 4 people fishing out there, all using the same bait, in the same area, i get 4 fish and no one else gets a thing??????? i find it strange how it works sometimes. Terry did get hit a couple of times but they were gone instantly.. more pics to come when Terry responds.
Thanks again Terry for bringing me out there, i had a blast!
