Goleta 7-18

Fished north of Goleta today from 10:00 till 12:00 on the peaking tide. Wind was light offshore to glassy, waves were small and setty. I was pretty sure it was going to be a salad fest and it was. I tried to throw a KM with a treble and then a single and both would wobble for 3-5 cranks and then die in salad. It looked real fishy with birds everywhere and I was dreaming to throw a swimmy or crank bait, but there was just no way.

Tons of hardshell sandcrabs in all sizes and quite a few softies just none big enough to hook. Soaked sc's on the crig 1/4 oz. and caught 6 or 7 and farmed or lost 3 due to professional release or salad or whatever. If I didn't hook up on the cast or the first six or seven cranks salad would take over. My first fish was super heavy and I was thinking "aw this is a pig", but it was just the eel grass.

These guys were cruising the beach big time. At first I thought they were pushing bait, but I never saw any break the surface. They would just go back and forth and I would have to stop casting they were so close. A few times they would slap there tails at each other, pretty cool stuff.

Moved up the beach a couple hundred yards to a hole I caught rubberlip and YFC last summer. Fished for 20 min for nada so I moved up the beach again a bit. At this spot I found bigger bsp models and caught five in about 40 and then right around the peak tide the bite seemed to die so I called it a day.
