La Conchita 8/1/08

Well my vacation is coming to a close and I had to hit the water one last time before having to go back to that four letter word, work!! It was 1:30 pm and the tides were all wrong but that was the only time one of my fishing students could get out. The water looked nice there at La Conchita. The waves were breaking a short distance out and there was plenty of knee deep water to play in. My student never made it which was fine by me, it allowed me to move up and down the beach freely. It was overcast with the sun breaking out now and then to warm me up. I strickly used my gulp camo on a 6# flor leader and #10 braid, carolina rig style. Overall I caught 40 plus med size perch with one being a huge 13-14 inch long and felt like almost 3 pounds, 1 13" yellowfin croaker, and 1 18" mackeral. While having fun with the perch I hear this wet slapping sound in the sand about 25 feet up behind me. It immediately reminded me of a halibut slapping the sand so I turned around and saw this 40" shark which had grounded itself high on the beach. I ran up to it in time to see what looked like a baby shark covered in blood and stuff going out with the current. The bigger shark was bleeding very badly out of its mouth, gills, and that other place where the baby shark is born from. I attempted to get it to swim away but it just kept letting itself wash up on the beach. After several attempts to get it to swim away I just let nature takes it course and the shark became food for all of the birds watching me and the shark. It was a beautiful greyish blue back with white belly, but thats life! Take care of yourselves and be safe out there. Cali bear

Thanks for the report Genaro. 40 plus is a nice session. Good job not interfering with Mother Nature.
