It was late Wed afternoon and I decided I needed a little surf time, so off to Hollywood BeachI went. It was about it was 5:30 which gave me about 2.5 hrs until sunset. I started near the North Jetty and worked North towards 5th street. I had my "OLD" but favorite 6.5 feet long Daiwa Eliminator freshwater rod, but the old matched reel has seen several repairs and is now gone because its unserviceable. Inow use a Penn Captiva with it, which has 4# Vanish Gold on its spool. I was using my favorite Big Hammer MORF grub on a caroline rig. The tide was low, very low but I worked my way towards the point where the cove meets the ocean. Up until that point I had only a few bites and 2 BSPs, then I started getting bit hard!! To make this long story short I had 4 nice size YFC, the smallest 13", the biggest 14.5". ThenI remembered I was looking for Corbina so I violatedone of the big fishermen's rules. "You dont leave fish to look for fish!" I went aroundthe corner to look for the Corbina I had seem on several scouting walks. The sun had gone down and no sign of Corbina, soback to the samespot where the YFC had been. In the grey light after sunset I caught 2 more, but I hadmissed several big bites. Now it was dark and I was cold, so home Iwent.Today, Thur 5/12 I hit the same spot about 830am, but I was targeting Halibut. I was using the same rod and reel but throwing swimbaits. ( I forgot to mention I was using Pro-Cure on my plastics). Not a single bite until I hit that same spot from the evening before. They were hitting the swimbaits hard, real hard!! I thought I was maybe going to get a halibut until the first one came out of the water. Two of my swimbaits were bit in half. After all was said and done, I had 6 more nice size YFC to add to the day before. Sorry, I forgot to mention that the tide was even lower then the nite before. Oh hell, its 5:15 pm right now, I feel the need to go back. So I say good bye, play safe. Cali Bear
