Soggyshoe, ODH33 and I went to the south side of Zuma (near point dume) to havea nice day at the beach with friends, significant others etc.

OF COURSE we HAD to bring some surf gear! We each brought a surf rod for bait soaking (squid). We also tossed GULP! and bighammers on our light spinnig outfits.

I ended up with one perch on the GULP!. Soggy ended the day with a shovelnose. ODH was the winner of the day with 2 batrays, 1 shovelnose, and one perch (GULP!).

Coolest part: Traditionally, lifeguards are jerks to fishermen...stating that swimmers and surfers have right of way....WELL, a lifeguard came up to us and asked if we would be fishing all day...we responded YES! He proceeded to setup flags around our area, and designate it a fishing zone! SWEET! we need more like that guy! (at surfrider & SM in particular).

All in all a fun day at the beach! Edited by: SoCalSteve

Steve,

That was definitely a cool thing that the life guard did! When you think about it, it was also very smart because he helped to avoid any type of conflict with people not fishing. He was basically saying to everyone, there's room for us all if we do it right. Glad you were able to get out there with good friends and have a great time fishing and enjoying a very nice day.

Good to hear you guys finally got out. Really cool what the lifeguard did (Was actually thinking). Most of all none of you got skunked.

Kelp is bad! One thing I try to do when there is a lot
of kelp is switch over to circle hooks. Those, and torpedo sinkers,
help to cut down on the snags, and mimimize the damage when they do
occur. My buddy Ken Jones showed me some "pencil sinkers" that really
worked great, but I haven't been able to find the locally yet.</font>

I would have designated it as a fishing and nude sun bathing zone
