Location: Mandalay Beach (power plant)

Time fished: 6:30pm to 9:45pm

Well, Balonie and I decided to visit the power plant again after work. It was again on. The water and air temp was rather warm but it also was very foggy and overcast. Balonie and I both landed fish on our first cast. Balonie caught 2 yellowfin croaker (good size), and 2 thornback skate. He threw them all back because hes only hunting shark. I ended up landing 5 thornback skate, and 3 shovelnose sharks. I kept only two shovelnose (33in & 36in). Everything was caught on squid.

The surf was light and the current was calmer than normal from about 6:30pm to 9pm. The surf of course picked up after that. The power plant lights, the fog and overcast conditions produced a well lit area to fish in.

Overall another great night at the power plant. Action Action Action! Thats two primo nights in a row. With summer here and air conditioners running full bore... the plant is running and you all need to fish it asap!!!

Goleta Pier may just have to wait till next weekend... Im going to be at this power plant untill Im too sunburned to stand it anymore..

HeyJoey,

yeah, its just passed 5th street. You can get there from 5th street and walk the beach till you get to the plant, but its easyer to just park in front of it on Harbor Blvd.(yellow gate) and walk through. Either way you cant miss it. Fish the mouth of the wash coming from the plant. It seems to be producing alot at the moment. Check to see if smoke is coming form the smokestack. If so, the water will be really warm and fishing should again be great.

I will be back out there tonight at about 5pm (sat), and again tomorrow at about 10am (sun).

Ps. I had things to do tonight so I will be at the power plant at7am tomorrow morning insted of a short fish tonight and another short fish tomorrow. Knowing myself, I could be there till sundown. If anyone is coming down, look for me directly in front of the power plant (say hello).
