Location: Mandalay Beach (power plant)
Time fished: 9:30am to 6:30pm
Bait/Tackle: Mackerel and Squid / 15ft ocuma tundra rod and jarvis walker silver series reel with 20lbs test line.
Weather/Conditions: Overcast and cold. Water was a greyish brown color and colder than the past few days (power plant off).
Well, Sunday was an ok day at the Mandalay Beach Power Plant. I caught a nice sized shovelnose shark (42 in). I also caught 25+ thornback skate, and 1 small grey smoothhound shark.
The beach was packed with fisherman! Everyone was catching fish. I was told of a couple halibut caught (legal size) and a bunch of shovelnose. But the skate were taking up most everyones time... dahm things swallow hooks like nothing elts Ive ever seen. I must have lost 15-20 hooks yesterday.
I had a chance to meet a couple of the "get bent" members also. First I ran into Blacklion (he told me about the halibut), and then ran into Joey805. He told me about Saturdays fishing and theft. That had to really suck!!!Both guys were really cool...
So good luck to ya'all this week and weekend! Be sure to lock and hide valuables in your car (joey805 showed me the pics of his car window).
Ps. I will post a pic of the shovelnose I caught tonight when I get home.

Sounds good! But don't know if I'm going to be taking my car back there anymore. It cost me a hundred bucks and 4 rods, 4 reels, a radar detector and an mp3 player.
Grrrrr

Yeah, totally understandable. Ive sketched parking out front like that too. Ive walked from 5th street down the beach to the plant. Its a bit of a walk, but worth the piece of mind! In fact, Im going to be doing that from now on when I know Im going to be there late.

Parking down on 5th Street is a bit of a walk but it is in a lighted area and populated area. It sucks to loose out on a hot spot. Take it easy,

haha, its the "clasper".
The males have two claspers (like feet) to hold onto the females I guess..
