Comments: Got an invite to go up to East Goleta Beach with FishHead and his buddy Oscar. We got up there about 5:45 AM a little before sunrise. Started working east toward the slough outlet and Matt was the first to hook-up and managed a corbina that he had some fun with, The conditions were actually very, very mild and there was very little trash in the water so it seemed like we had a good shot ata good day offishing. We fished hard for about 4 hours and I never really had any action to speak of (a few bites here and there). Matt had the hot stick this day and managed 2 short halibut not too long after he nailed the corbina. He also hooked up with something that was pretty big and it started to take him up the beach. This thing was taking line pretty good until it ran him into a big clump of kelp and just simply came unbuttoned! It would have been cool to see what that fish was. Meanwhile Oscar and I are scratching hard to just avoid a skunk! I used several different patterns trying to find something that would work, but nothing seemed to be working. The overcast lifted as we were getting back towards the parking lot so I decided to try a 3” clear red and finally managed a short halibut in front of the parking lot. It was a tough day fishing, but a great time at one of my favorite places.
