Point Mugu NAS Sunday

Shot on down to Point Mugu Naval Air Station Sunday. Spent about 4 hours on the Beach. Baited my 12 footer with a Sardine, cast it out and stuck it in the sand spike, then proceeded to work the surf with a lighter outfit.
Tried the Gulp Sand Crabs with no results then swapped out to the Gulp Worms. first cast and BAM!! caught an 8 Inch BSP. While getting my hook back, the 12 footer went bendo and I hauled in a 3 foot Shovelnose.
Released both fish and about 20 minutes later caught another 8 inch BSP which I also let go.
I'm here to give ya'll testimonial that GULP works and works awesome.

Had both poles set up Carolina Rig.

12 footer had 15 LB test, 2.5 oz Slider and 1.0 Circle hook (Sardine).

The other pole I had 8 LB test, 3/4 oz slider, # 8 hook for Gulp Sand Crabs and #6 hook for the worms. Leaders from the swivel to the hook were 4-6 inches long.

Took Flippers advice and cut the Gulp worm into thirds. Thanks Flipper.

There was a dead sea lion on the beach with a BIG bite taken out of him also. I don't have to tell anyone what that was from.

All in all.. a great day...Finally

I use to fish of the base as well. My dad use to work there so we would occasionally go fishing at that beach. One of the best times was at night. Soak some squid and get lots of croakers, rays, and big leopards.

Its a great beach for the lack of pressure
