Sounds as though we may have a few folks out at the Power Plant tonight getting the inside scoop and doing some practice for Sunday.
You will be fishing an hour before top of the tide and then the outgoing. I may just try and make it out there as well.
Batman - Why joking about the 9/0 reel and big bait. I loaded it up before and had a jet skier take it out for me with a ball sinker and D-Ring to drop the line straight down from where he was at. It took us 5 tries before we got it right (first he took off to fast and created a birds nest on the reel, then to slow and he got eaten by a wave, a few more tries and we got it right. It sat for over an hour while I pitched grubs. Decided to call it a day and while putting away my grubbing pole I heard that clicker scream like a freight train. The reel was just serviced, new drags put in and a new power handle added - and you guessed it I got flat out smoked and spooled but what do you expect from a 500 lb Blue Shark. But maybe this time we set up the 16/0 reel and go for the glory.

Ithought that was onlyworth whilein florida,Teaxas, Australiaand other places with nearshore sharks.I fogot all about the blues. If flipper will tow my line out I will take my wide penn 4/0 with 500 yards of 50lb that was serviced a month ago by me! What kind of bait did you use. I have 90lb wire to use for a leader but I need to find a hook that is the right size. I also have 1lb lead ingots ($ 10 shipped from e-bay) that I can screw something into to use as a sinker. Tim what lb test were you did you use and was your drag set right? That must have been a big fish!

It was sorta' a joke Joey.Odds are I wouldnt get hit by something that big, but if it happend (like it did to Sinker), I would give it a shot. Also, now that I think about it... it would be a good reason to get another rod and reel ((((sNaP)))).hahaha.

I was at Emma Wood and was using 80lb. Dacron with a 100# rated three way swivel with 100# wire leader to two hooks knitted into aSkate I had caught.
Everything was operating fine, my drag was smoked. My mistake was having about 2/3 of my line out and only leaving 1/3 to use for fighting the fish. A boat in the area had been chasing what they believed to be a 500# Blue Shark and we think that may be what took it. At the very end of the freight train run I cranked the star drag tight and that slowed him down but didn't stop him. If I would have done it earlier it would have just snapped my line. I had to sit down in the rocks to keep from being pulled into the surf, heck for all I know maybe it got snagged on a submarine as I never saw it, whatever it was.
I have tried it about another 15 times since. Once I even got enough courage to knit a live Skate, had it taken out and dropped off, stayed there all night and every time I got a big nothing, most times not even a crab mark on the bait. Guess that one time was my big chance and I blew it.

Geeze! That must have been quite the rush to see your drag peeling like that. I bet it was that big blue!

No wonder you almos fell over. if you had you'r drag set a 25% and you had 2/3 of the spool gone the drag would have ben at 40lbs. Wow. It looks like I am out gunned. Time to buy another reel

How late are you guys going to be there tonight? My wife decided this would be a good night to take the kids to visit her mother so after about 6:30 I will have the evening free and would probably be able to make it there at around 7:30 - 8:00. Let me know if you get this before heading out. Thanks. Mark.
