Samo sharkin 7/26/06

Decided to poach scribbys spot in SM after getting skunked the last few times at the Charthouse. Met up with my buddy, Che Chico. We started soakin the dead squid, instant bites non stop. Both of us would hook up right after another.

Aaron hooks into a nice sized shovelnose

Then its my turn

He's on another one, with spearfish in the background

This one was a real drag burner, it worked him down the beach

Measuring another one for Aaron, a 43 incher.

Last one for me, I spilt beer all over me. Time to go home

Had a blast tonight, SNGF were non stop. Had to throw in the towel. Too bad the leos didnt want to play.

I ended up with 6 and Aaron had 7 or 8.

My arm is totally sore!

That last one I pulled in must have been about 20 lbs considering I can barely move my arms right now!

...but it sure as hell was worth it!!

Nice post and some nice catches for sure.

Shovel Nose are some good eating if prepared correctly.

Speaking of Shovel Nose just an FYI - the way these creatures are, unless you are keeping them it is better to hold them Head Up or their stomach can actually move when being held by the tail. They will swim away but eventually die, not always but sometimes. Try holding them head up like in the photo below:

No worries as I held so many the wrong way before I finally learned from the VCSRC Marine Biologist who specializes in Sharks and Rays. Still learning more every day.

Oh yeah the eating part:

Find the recipe by Flipper here - my famous "SHOVELNOSE KABOBS"
