Last Call for Catalina Two Harbors June9-10-11.

Just throwing this out there, I have 3 spots left for this trip. We Express out of San Pedro on the 10:00am Boat. Hit the island 70 minutes later, and usually are fishing within the hour. Fish all weekend, Express back at 2:00pm Sunday. Staying in the Tent Cabins at Two Harbors, just need a sleeping bag, bring the air bed, stuff is worn out in the cabins. I cover the basic food and water, adult beverages are BYOB.With the market in town if you forget anything you can buy it there. Cost is $300.00 includes your rental yak, paddle, and Pfd,as well as the food, camping fees and guide fees. This does not include your parking in San Pedro ($12.00 per day) or your round trip Express ticket ($54.00). Bring your snorkling gear or get in on the Wine tasting on Saturday, it will be a good time at Catlina this weekend! See you there. TL Rhino

Quick recap of the trip. Friday was great, afternoon we fished first reef, Bird Rock and the High Spot for lots of calicos. Tough to make bait until the evening twilight, lots of spanish macs. Watched a free diver nail a nice WSB, approx 30 lbs. Soon after he left the area I got hammered on the live bait, crushed and missed getting hooked. Reeling up a calico I had a 30 lb WSB chase the calico to the kayak, just to turn and splash me as I staired in disbelief. Next day we made it back to the same spot, but conditions had changed, lots of breeze. We worked the lee of Bird and made our way to the High spot then Ship Rock. Lots of boat traffic, ripping current and wind swell made it a tough morning, we got a few calicos but were off the water by 1:00. Lunch and a little nap, back on the water for the afternoon/evening session. Tried the WSB area and had another bait get crushed, darn it!
Sunday we packed up camp and hit the water at 7:00, paddle out to reef #1, again bait and calicos. Better morning, not as strong a current. We headed over to Lions Head and worked the coast up from there, more calicos. Best calico of the trip fell for my 5" Fishtrap, fished on 12 lb. Cast out,and slow trolled into the first cove at Lions Head. 4 lb calico. Kept a few fish for my client Tom. Kent (Highbeam) Myers also joined me on the trip, we all had good fishing on the calicos, and many different lure patterns seamed to work. Back again next month. TL Rhino
