FF & Bait Tank??????

Ok so i am finishing my bait tank=5 gal bucket with a attwood 500

My question is how many people wired there aerator backwards positive and negative. And who runs there aerator with a 6 volt rather than a 12 volt. I would like to run everything off a 12 volt and keep away from 2 batteries but there are so many opinions with flow and etc. I will be running a FF, bait tank and seperate GPS. Any info on your setups and what is working for you would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Jason

Jason, sorry I don't have the link but you should be able to find it on goggle. There is a max GPM you should be running on a bait tank or you'll harm the fish. If you can't find it in a day or two post back and I'll look again. It isn't just an opinion either, too fast will hurt em bad. Some people run their pumps backwards and I suppose that could drop the GPM down but at what expense? I'd rather put a restrictor on it.

Also, use a timer on your pump or you'll drain the voltage down way faster than you'd wish.

mmm. I know that having two batteries sounds like a pain, but having all that gear suck the life outta one might be worse and really tough on your battery long term. I personally rock a 12V for the sonar and a 6V high amps one for my bait tank. Just my thoughts.....

Danimal do you have the wiring hooked regular pos to pos since you are running a 6v and what amp batt is the 6v you are running? Also do you turn your tank on and off or let it run?

Kayatank has a timer switch. 7 seconds on 14 seconds off.

I would like to get away from an aerator and go to a circulation tank. A timer and restricto has been mentioned in the posts. Where can I get the parts for that set-up, and what would you recommend as the proper pump. I will be using a kittie litter container as it fits well on both my yaks.

When I hooked up both aerator and FF to one battery, the FF didn't work so well. But that all depends on the FF. The more expensive ones tend to require more juice.

Here is my bait tank - > Liquid Fishing

I bought my timer switch from Jason. 3 minutes off 30 seconds on, or something like that. $30.

You can't run them back words they won't work. It would try and suck from the out let line and spit it out the bottom. I know most yakers run 6V on the bait pump and 12 for the rest. I run 12 for everything and never had an issue but what ever works for you. You can try 12 and if it is to much you can always add a 6V later too.

Possible solution to reduce flow, instead of a restriction, split the return flow 1/2 to tank 1/2 to ocean, or what ever appropriate percentage is best for the bait (20% 80%, 40% 60%, etc.). Should eliminate any negative problems with back pressure on the pump.
