I'm gonna try it out!

I'm new here but have been reading all the threads and I'm just amazed at how helpful and friendly everyone is. I have been wanting to try kayaking for a long time. I plan on taking a lesson next month. I'm a little worried about weight limitations I'm 5'11" 260 lbs hopefully they carry a XXL model. You guys got me all pumped up I can't wait.

There are about six I can think of off the top of my head that would work. You'll need to decide first paddle or peddle, then type of fishing, and speed over stability or vice-versa. Fresh or salt matters little.

There is great fishing out there on a yak, or just plain old cruise time.

Have fun searching.

Rather than a kayak "lesson," I'd suggest hooking up with a Pro guide like Rhyno or Jas(kayaksportfishing.com.) They'll provide you with a kayak that fits your needs, and you'll basically eliminate alot of trial and error that comes with something new. That and they'll put you on fish while learning the ropes on the yak. It'll knock off a big chunk of the learning curve.
3 of the most popular "big guy" yaks to look at would be the Cobra Fish and Dive XF, Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game, and the Malibu Kayaks X-Factor.

Oh and if freshwater is your thing there's a guide up near you in the 559, Ricky Noel Mitchell aka PaddleandFlies.

Guides are not a necessity to get into this great part of the sport..just a cool option.

More info

Coastal Kayak Fishing Schools!

check out that link this company does pretty much nothing but help yakers, offering different classes depending on skill and experience. Also the Fred Hall Show which starts TOMORROW will have numerous seminars for kayaks.

Enjoy!! Damn we need a yak smiley close enough it gets horizontal for a while and then it does a surf launch.
