The Jigmaster has a 4:1 ratio, which is fairly quick depending on how much line you've got spooled up. I've got 250 yds of 50lb braid on the outermost diameter of the spool.

The line is almost worth more than the reel it's on!

The reason I asked was that I was my Dad never succeeded in catching a Yellowtail from the shore despite him trying very hard. He always used a Jigmaster and I blamed the "slow retrieve" of the reel for that.

Nowadays we work our irons even faster then those days.

I have a strong preference for a 6:1 reel that hauls in a lot of line per crank.
