I like em light, Caper, Explorer, and now there's Cobra Escape.

Go on paddle day at REI or Southwind Kayak Center and you can paddle
all the models and try them out, you even get 15% off the price.

I would reccomend the escape too! You dont sound very big so that would be easy to transport and easy to launch.

Thomas,

I am sure you would like the Explorer very much. The advice to go to REI's Paddle Day is real good advice. I have a Cobra kayak and I love it, I just have not got to use it much lately.

Once you get a yak, take one of the several safety clinics offered by the various kayak guides around. Let me know when you are ready and I can help you find the right one. I am sure we will be hitting the water together with our yaks before too long!!!

Thomas,

It may be worthwhile to consider the Hobie Mirage Outback. I tested one out at the CIK center before buying my Mirage Tandem. You can troll and propel yourself at the same time. The control is unbelievable. If you are into sailing, it does that, too. The pedals can catch on kelp, but it's easy to lift them out. You can always use the oars if need be.

I've been really pleased with mine.
