For you experienced kayakers out there, in times such as now when the weather is cooler and the water temp. is going down, do you wear a wet suit or similar just in case you take a swim? I can't imagine being out there in 50 degree weather and wearing wet clothes. What do you guys suggest?

paddle pants. they have neoprene cuffs at the ankle and the waist that helps keep water out. the material is waterproof, but the holes arent. but it still helps.

paddle shoes. basically high top surf shoes. but the ones i have, made by Warmers, actually help keep my feet warmer. they let water in and out of them, but after a few seconds, your body heat warms the water and they feel comfy again.

paddle jacket. the only time i ever get wet over my waist is when i launch through the surf.i dont own one, but would like to get a paddle jacket. basically the same breathable waterproof material as the paddle pants, with neoprene cuffs at the waist and wrists. afterwards, you can just pull it off, or keep it on like a windbreaker. right now im using the top ofone of those cheap rain suits that you can get for $5. it works, but you better have some warm gear underneath, because it gets HOT when youre covered in non-breathable plastic. hehe.

you can get all this stuff at REI... if you have a store somewhere in your area.but i believe they have a website also. forewarning: theyre expensive.

Thats OK if your loaded with cash. just go to Zuma Jays in Malibu
and buy one of his wet suits. Both new and used ones from summer
and rentals. about 30 to 40 bucks used and about 100.00 new

i used to use a spring suit, but OMG!!! i got hot! and dehydrated. and this was in winter! hahaha. some people like em tho. so not gonna knock em or nuthin. but i havent worn mine since i got my paddle pants. the wetsuit is great when i actually wanna get in the water. but the only time ive ever gone in while on the yak was when the la jolla surf flipped me over. thats only happened twice. but, i wish i was wearing my wetsuit when i did! hahahaEdited by: pEsCaDoR
