Where: Launched at Malibu.

When: Wednesday, Nov 23th, 2005; 9am

Water Conditions:3.5 ft Low tide,10 ft visibility, 63°F water temp

Air Conditions: Cloudy, West wind at about7 mph, about 68°F

Craft: Hobie Mirage

Setup: Double curly tail plastic grubs, weedless.

Target: Halibut

Catch: 10 assorted calicos and rockfish.

I took the day off to get a beach launch in before the weekend swell hit. We first visited Leo Carillo, but it looked too desolate. No yakkers out. Didn't get a good feeling about it, so we headed to Malibu. The launch was easy-no waves. We tried and triedto get smelt, but could only get x-large ones. The kindyou use to catchmarlin. Since there probably wasn't any marlin around, we decided to go for bass. Good thing I brought my bait tank because it doubled as a live well. My son was the first to hook up, with a nice checkerboard. After that, he just kept hooking up. Austin outfished me 8 to 2 today. I was probably happier about it, though. The live well worked great!

Here's some pics:
