Here's a really scary one from another board:
Arrived at the lake at around 9:30 and was in my tube on the water by 10:30,
fishing was slow but steady near the boat ramp all day on trout worms fished on
a jig head or on a sliding sinker rig. Released four trout and was putting a
third on the stringer when "whoops!"...there goes my rod.
Now, before I
go any further I need to dispense some advise that I had to learn the hard
way.
When float tubing always wear a floatation device, always keep your
storage compartments zipped tightly and if possible have a safety strap accross
your lap to keep your ass in the float tube.
You see when I saw my rod go
under I reached for it, I over reached and slipped off of the edge of my tube
and when I tried to grab it to keep from going under the whole damn thing
flipped. Goodbye to the other rod and all of my tackle...
(By the way the
water hear is a little over eight feet deep)
I was able to gram the tube
and keep my head up and thank goodness I put my wader belt on so I only got
about five gallons of water in my waders instead of the who freakin lake. I was
able to get over to the shore and get my feet under me and right my tube, as I
was prepairing to go fetch the pieces of my tackle that were still floating I
noticed some line wrapped around my anchor line, I followed the line and was
able to pull one of my rods off the bottom. I then used my net to collect the
majority of my tackle. (I still lost some of my favorate stuff)
I decided
to drag my last Thomas Bouyant along the bottom a few times (before hyperthermia
set in) to see if I could snag the first rod I lost and I actually got it! I
snagged it by the line guide at the very tip of the rod!
Very crazy
stuff...and very scary!
