Ive been wanting to go yak fishing for a long time but i cant gather the money to buy one. Im thinking about saving up my paychecks for a month and a half straight to afford one. Can anyone tell me wat would be a good starter yak for me. Ive tried ebay and they didnt have anything that suited my money situation. Thanx

like rods and reels its a matter of choice. i don't own one or even have the slightest idea of whats on the market. but i can suggest that you rent first. try out different kinds when you find one you like start saving and buy. surf these boards and others i am sure there are good used ones out there. my dos centavos!

I have been yaking before i either borrow or rent until i find the one i like i'll keep trying then i'll save up and buy. I really like the one i have been borrowing from Kent. but i am not sure of the name.Edited by: ODH33

I have a Cobra tandem in Dana Point if you want to go out and give it a spin. I don't have it set up for fishing, haven't got around to it, but that was my plan. I'm thinking of getting rid of it. Seem to spend more time moving it out of my way than using it.

If you're in the area let me know.

Just remember a couple of things before you buy a kayak. How far do you plan on paddling when you go fishing and how stable do you need the kayak to be. A longer narrow kayak will be great for paddling long distances but you sacrifice stability. The opposite is true with a shorter, wider kayak. You'll have great stability but not as fast on the water. I prefer stability and storage. But as ODH said, you should paddle as many kayaks as possible before buying one. You don't want to dishout $600 on a kayak that someone said is awesome but isn't really what you wanted. Just my .02.

P.S. I've been told that Feb. through April is the best time to look for a used kayak because people sell theirs and upgrade to a new one for the summer.

Look through Craigslist boat section, they sometimes have yaks on there.

I have Malibu Kayaks...scramblers. They are small, easy to paddle
and easy to transport on the top of my car. Not the most stable, but
work fine for me. You can also modify your kayak to fit your needs,
check out the rhyno bar for mounting you fishing stuff.......
