Congrats on the new yak..... a sweet deal for sure. There is lots of
gear available, and special clothes to wear if you want. Mostly
depends on the time of year and water temp. You mostly want to be
warm and comfortabke. I have a spring suit and booties I wear in
winter...( Neoprene keeps me warm under a windbreaker..... ) and
just fish in shorts for summer. you stay pretty warm paddleing. I
have buddies with actual yak suits, helmets, ..and others like myself
with the basics. It just depends on how much you think you need, or
can afford. Good luck with your new boat, and lets "Hook up" on our
yaks sometime....

Dave, I made a comment on Kojak's post when you bought the yak but I'll do it here...now that you have the yak you need to practice falling out and jumping back on in the water and I do it at the kitty beach in C.I. Harbor...I sometimes wear in the winter to spring months a full wet suit (go to "Play It Again Sports-Great prices ask for "Nate")it's as good as wearing a PFD around your whole body, but I recommend that you still get a PFD, find something that will be comfortable while sitting in the yak, I think the CO2 vests are awesome $120 saving to get one. Summer months shorts...I also have a whistle in my vest, emergency hand warmer packs, light sticks, pocket knife. In my yak I have rope, anchor, first aid kit, dry bag for radio's or cell phone, and mini flare gun. Come over to my house I have plenty of rope you could make a yak leash with. And you'll have to leash everything down on your yak...especially when you're beach launching....sendme PM or call me 509-4194

Hey when I went over board on the 29th of December in high swells and bad currents, good thing I had a buddy with me and was able to get my yak lined up for me to get back in it...I was hooping for bugs, my rope came in handy, after the 4th attempt to get back in the yak would have failed I would have had to resort to that flare gun for assistance after getting my head banged against rocks and I busted a couple of ribs.... yaking at night is another ball game....
