Big fish from the kayak requires a gaff longer than 3', a fish club or persuader, and a divers fish clip with a 3' piece of heavy rope or line connected to it, carry a net for F&G. Have the clip tied off on a sturdy point on the kayak before you start fishing. All big fish require more fight time, dont be too anxious to start the end game. Once the beast is relaxed enough to allow you a good, clean shoot with the gaff or net, take it. Be ready to drop the rod in a safe out of the way place,(tough on a yak). Next slip the opened fish clip up through the fish' gills, close the clip once you have the fish down on the clip. Remove the gaff or net, and now hold on to the clip if you can. If not let the beast thrash a little next to the yak, you may get a little wet, oh well

Once you can grab the clip and hold the fish still proceed with the "Persuader" to ensure that the fish will join you for the BBQ. Larger fish like halibut can come back from the dead

, so be prepared. If you can stow the fish inside the hull of the kayak in an insulated fish bag or similar do it. For big Threshers you better be on a tandem kayak so you can load the shark onto the kayak. Or be able to drag the large fish in, while watching out for the man in the grey suit. Last bit of advice is to have everything thought out, know your end game gear, and how to use it! TL Rhyno
