1st there are killer whales inshore off California at various times of the year. 2nd if you encounter said whale remember the dumping of waste products in the water within 3 miles of shore is prohibited. 3rd whales often breach like this as a shock technique before eating small animals such as seals which are around the same size as a Kayak.
