The only time I carry an anchor is in freshwater. I don't think anyone carries an anchor in the saltwater. If you do use one, make sure you leave a 3-1 ratio of line to depth so you don't get swamped in a huge swell. Though a drift chute is something very handy to have and use.

I think the rope I carry for a kelp line is like 10'

There was an awsome orange yak and tank on this site last week. Look it up. The guy can give you the parts list I am sure.
As for fishfinder and GPS. Unless you want to use the GPS seperately Humminbird sells several fish finders that come with GPS and Charts for less that what Carnivore was quoting

Humminbird 363 as an example - $276.99Boatersland Marine
Cabelas has the 363 for $299 and the Color 383c for $399. I have have been very happy with my Matrix finder. The ability to have a true compass or magnetic as well as the charts are great.

No anchor need for 95% of the coastal fishing you will be doing. A 5lb folding anchor,2' of chain and 100' of 1/2" anchor rope is more than enough. Keep it simple to begin this sport. VHF and fishfinder are good tools. Floating gaff, and net, measuring device, later 2 for F&G. Boga grip is a must in my book. Car wash sponge and a small 2 gallon Chapin sprayer with fresh water for a quick rinse of electronics and fishing gear helps alot. Need more? TL Rhyno
