Ok guys I was able to pick up my yak from Rhyno this past Friday. Thank you Rhyno for the sweet dea! If anyone is looking for a yak talk to Jeff (rhyno) he can hook you up with a sweet yak ready to fish... Thank you Randy for placing the call for me!

ok here is the help i need...

i need suggestions on a handheld gps chartplotter. the rhyno bar already has amount for one but i know nothing about them so i do not even know where to start.

i'd also like to purchase a fish finder so any suggestions would be welcomed

bait tank... i know some of you guys have built your won bait tank for your yaks so please help me out.

landing net? what do you guys use and recommend

landing tool / gaff i am thinking of getting a lipper but wanted to hear what you guys like gaff or landing tool...

my kayak is an ocean drifter the angler edition. so far i have the seat a paddle and a pdf. what else do i need

I'll take some pics of my yak as is and also as i continue to improve it.

Thanks all!

I know i am going to have a ton of other questions so please be patient with me

ROD LEASHES!! jk...You're pretty well set up. I would get some rod leashes though just in case. I bring a gaff and a lipper with me. Cabelas has a nice landing net that folds up for $20 I think. That way you can store it in the hull. Congrats on the new kayak too. We gotta head out. I've been going pretty much every Saturday. If you get a gaff, make sure it floats, if it doesn't put a leash on it. Also put a leash on the lipper. They're expensive and you don't want that to end up on the bottom of the ocean.

Don't forget the must-have: a radio! My son has one, too, in case we get separated. Get a low-end at West Marine for $100 or a nice Horizon with FM radio. Are you gonna have this all figured out by Saturday?

LOL! Yeah, and we don't even use half the stuff on our yak! I don't even own a gaff and I've never enjoyed the problem of catching a flattie big enough for one!!
Maybe if I buy I gaff, I catch a big one.

Well garmin is the only way to go on GPS but not sure the price you are looking for I have found the 60c for around 370 new so look around or move up to the 60csx for a removable memory(don't need it unless you are going to yak around the world) they are water proof and tough as nails. There are others that are cheaper but 300 is the mark for a decent chart handheld.

The fish finder depends on what you want to use it for. (****warning my opinion only*****) fish finders are mainly used for find depth and structure so depending on the depth you are going to be at and or the type of areas, I would go for a garmin 90 to 240 and I think I am going to get a 250 color for my boat. Now on a yak you will have to worry about battery the 90 to 240 is a 100 to 800 (rms peek) now it isn't that high power but will last much longer on a 7a battery. The 250 up are 500 to 1000 and will eat one of those batteries up in just a little while. The 120 is a nice all around unit that I was going to go with in my aluminum boat and it is water proof (test is 3 feet at 30 minutes) so if ya dump your yak for some reason no harm.

bait tank there are several different ideas you can go with but for about 40 bucks you can make an awesome yak tank. I made this one for my aluminum boat but with a igloo cube instead of a 5 gallon bucket. http://www.kayaksportfishing.com/equ...k/livewell.htm

the rest I will leave up to the yakers but let me know if you need a hand with that tank I have made four for other people I am getting to be a pro heheh.

I have the collapisble landing net SteveO mentioned. Its flimsy and not designed for salt, but I have never used a net. I only carry it since DFG requires it.

I have a gaff, a promar one, got it cheap at Fred Hall show. If you plan on keeping fish, get a game clip as well. I have a float on mine since I dropped one before and lost it.

Get a good/comfortable PFD, wear it.

Also what Stevo said LEASHES! on all your gear.

I have a gps and actually don't use it at all. As for fishfinder, you really don't need it, but it helps....Finding the depth, bait, and structure.

Also carry some extra rope to tie off to the kelp. I forgot mine the last time out and had to use my paddle leash.
