Live Bait

I need some help. When fishing off my yak with live bait, I seem to have a very short life span for my rigged bait. I nose hook them with ringed livebait hooks- in one nostril and out the other. They seem to last a very short time. Am I doing something wrong here, is there another way to hook bait so it lasts longer? Any help would be appreciated.

Mark, it sounds like you're hooking them to last once they're in the water. Maybe you're not aeriating the well water enough to keep them strong before you hook them? Sometimes bait is not cured properly either, and that could contribute to short life.

Your hook may be too thick as most live bait hooks are.
Try using thinner ones.

I agree with both yak and hali... PLUS I like to put the hook in through the mouth and up through the top... not locking the lower jaw to the top... just one point of contact, the upper pallet, then up and out!
