Never a stupid question so no problem.
1) Not great but some big bugs get caught from piers so definitely worth the effort. I can't promise you that you will catch something every time as on my little boat Joey, Mike and I have nights of getting skunked. Last year from what I heard the opener was full of people but that falls of quick when people find out that it is work not just easy pickins.
2) Fish either whole or carcases, chicken, cat and or dog food, wet or dry (to start with) I have heard squid but had no luck my self with it.
3)Lobsters can not be transported alive so how we do it is take off the tail before we leave the dock. You take the body and tail each in a hand and twist the tail half way one way then half back and the membrane inside should pop. If not do it until it does. Then pull the tail down until the top layer of meat breaks loose then up till the bottom does and then pull it out. Freeze them in water if you don't eat them in a few days.
4) I like promar hoops the best but they are the most expensive. Boaters world had them for 29 bucks last year but most of the time they go about 35. I use 36" ones so check the size as the 32s are cheaper and there can be some confusion.
5) Cleaning takes a few times to get it but it is real easy. Take an antenna from the lobster and break it off so the smaller end is a little smaller then the lobsters bung. stick the antenna in so the barbs are facing up or into the lobsters bung and it will rip the colon from the lobster shell. Then up at the end that was pulled out of the body (meat end) there should be a gray looking tube just pull on that lightly and keep working the antenna in until the tube comes out and tada it is clean. Wash then in freshwater as soon as you get home and put in the fridge.
