if you want to make rockfishing fun use metal jigs...jax, river2sea etc...you have to work harder but that's part of the fun.

My "Hacker" Iron has been tearing up the fishing on the Mirage...really big reds, Lings, Cow Cods....that's the best color besides Orange & white! Bought a bunch of assorted irons from Joker and they've worked also!

Im a sucker, I shelled out $35 for a couple lucanus jigs. The biggest problem that I have with them (besides the price) is the frustration of missing so many hooksets. Fish kind of just nibble the tail and never really grab it. I know they say don’t set the hook, just reel, but isn’t that half the fun, ripping a little lip? They do catch fish if you have the patience, but any old candybar jig will produce as many fish and more excitement. As far as tipping the hooks with squid… rockfish will bite on bare hooks “tipped” with squid. That is also how CADG&F looks at the lucanus jig, the 2 hooks on the jig is your 2 hook limit. That means no teasers and only lucanus jigs at a time...

Try the new Braid Sea Fox jigs. They only cost about $5, and they are just as effective as the overpriced Shimano stuff.
Cast them out and slowly drag/hop them back to the boat like you would if you were largemouth bass fishing. I was at Santa Barbara island and outfished everyone around who was fishing with baited dropper loops.

the lucanas seems to cath alot of the miss. rock fish. Yes they do catch fish. So deos a bait on a hook. Small iorn jigs in red, orange, yellow seem to work best. Not to forget the old black and purple.

    28. 5. General.

Bridge, where only one line with not more than three hooks may be used.
    (b) On public piers, no person shall use more than two rods and lines, two hand lines, or two
nets, traps or other appliances used to take crabs.

George, what Mr. Carnivorus Drewcanus is saying in the message above is:

Fish and Game will whoop yo A$$ if they catch you fishing Rockfish with more than two hooks. Therefore, you're only supposed to lose just one $18 jig at a time when you go fishing...

Then your modifying the jig you love soooooooooooo much:lol:........use a double dropper loop with a 1 lb. sinker put hoochie skirts over your hooks to make them look like Luganus jigs and you're set! Then you're legal within the DFG books!
