Who has a Penn 113HN 4/0 Baja Special? And do you like it?
I had one and I really liked it...I had the one with the plastic star drag though.
I do not own one, BUT quite a few of my friends do and are very happy with it. I have researched this particular reel and the, “class†of reels it belongs too. By far one of the best stock drag systems and drag performance in its class. Remember this is a $150.00 reel if you really look hard for a deal!!!!!!!!!!! Bang for your buck this is a good buy it WILL be the next reel I purchase. I hope this helps! Currently $189.00 @ charkbait and if you bought say an Avet MXJ then you would be spending well over $200.00. I have heard of 30# of drag after rebuilding this reel. I implore our resident reel guru to set the record straight on this reel since I am sure he has worked on a substantial number of these reels.
I remember reading the instruction manual and it's "versa drag" system allows you to vary the drag pressures changing the orientation of the drag washers. I believe the highest drag setting is around 28#.
Well, I have two brand new ones in the box don't know if I'm gonna keep them or sell or trade them.......I'm a Shimano guy and don't know if I would add these to my arsenal. But I would sell them at $165 if I do.....or trade for???
Joe check out penn baja special 113n I hope this helps in your quest!!
So am I and I have three TLD 20/40S that I use and abuse all the time, I also have a Penn 505L that is a member of that club of reels I can rely on all the time. Penn has created another semi legend with their engineering efforts and afford ability when it comes to this reel. Check out all the info you can about this reel and I think you will be surprised!!
I've been slaying all my fish with Toriums.........love them they can handle alot of abuse........
the only reason I sold mine was 'cause it was just a little too big and heavy to be fishing with all day long....
Well it is a 4/0.....haven't decided yet to keep or sell, feels heavy duty maybe gonna put it on a 7' 20-50 pound stick or a 9' Jigstick........who knows:dunno:
GOT ONE ON A 9FT SEEKER JIG STICK,WITH 40# NO COMPLAINTS:rockon:
40# that's a thought!
no problem they cast o,k, and they hold a crap load of spectra, the beef is good, bulky strong topless reel, will work excellent for wahoo to tuna at 50lbs, sure you have only one speed but at that price you can have it around forever and the re-drags are cheap and easy ... GOOD to go.
Joe, they are an excellent reel for a yo-yo rig for alijos or the 'lupe. With 40 or even 50 pound line. I dont own one, but I do have 2 accurized YTS's that are basically the same, and thats what I keep them for.
I was thinking of this reel to do the heavy duty fishing available here in northern cali and one ofthese days a southern cal trip. if i could find one around 150 dollars I'd be game to buy one. I have heard a lot of good dsaid about this reel.
Joe sell one to smitty for 150.. come on joe sell, sell, sell.
LET HOMIE HAVE IT !!!!
I ended up selling both of them and bought me a Trini 20! Once Shimano always Shimano!
Great reel. tons of power. Lots of Alijos wahoo and cedros yellowtail.
