Had a great day on the water with the family..glassy seas..great fishing..and memories to last a lifetime with the kids.

Highlight, my 7yr old daughter landed a 30+lb halibut on her pink led light up rod, with 8lb test. She is still telling anyone who will listen to her about it..shes told everyone walking down the street..all our neighbors the fish and game guys that popped by to check us out..and mostly everyone at the harbor..kinda priceless...

    few pictures to share

Sweet post Mitch. It is cool to see that your kids are getting the fishing bug.

Your daughter might have more bragging rights than she knows. A brief internet search showed that the female small-fry (age 8 and under) IGFA records for CA Halibut is 17lbs. Although, the only data I could find was from up to 2005.

Apparently you have to be a member of IGFA to get the small-fry records. If anyone has access to them it would be cool to see what the current record is.

    Cheers.

    What a great day! Epic.

Your 7 yr. old daughter is...is...is a better angler than me. There I said it. 30lb flattie on 8lb test...

You should video her telling the 1st, of many, fishing stories. What an album that would be in 20 yrs.

Thanks guys, i dont think shes going to qualify tho, lots of help from dad..I didnt want to break her heart during the fight..but the anti reversing thingy broke mid fight..so i was right there..and finished the fight off for her..Ill try to fix it..otherwise look to buy something better for her..It was a toughy to land..no doubt..she gave it her all..Only thing i can take credit for was a good knot..The hook set was perfect..inner part of the mouth away from the soft tissue and hook was far enough out not to damage the line...it was just waiting it out...She said about 15 times tho why is this taking so long!

Assist doesn't matter, the fact that she hooked a 30# flattie is the best fathers day memory you could ask for. Plus even with equipment failure you managed to get the fish on the boat on 8# line!! Congrats to your daughter and to you for the assist.
