And here is another crazy one....

This was taken in False Bay.... Also landed and released unharmed to fight another day...
Technically it is illegal to fish for Great whites, as they are a protected species, but this one was picked up while fishing for Bronze Whalers....

    Great White Est Weight 235 Kilos ( 520 lbs - Just a baby... )

They used a gaff just into the dorsal fin, and the swell to get her up... apparently it was a mission, and they got VERY lucky in getting the timing just right with a swell....

These guys are all serious nutters though...incase you hadn't already deduced that!!! :)

Joe - Finnng is a serious problem down here, as it is all over the world... There have been a number of set ups that have been busted over the last couple years down here... unfortunately, we don't have nearly the Cash or Numbers in our Marine Protection Agencies, nor do we have people with half a brain in the top positions, to try and target it.... add to that a multi billion dollar Abelone poaching industry and its a huge issue here with us recreationals to say the least....

But I can tell you that these boys are militant in the protection of their quarry.... they will take a gaff and a baseball bat to the first person who even looks at their beloved sharks with an eye to harm them.....

That's good! When I lived in Florida in the 60's and 70's their was a great number of sharks to be caught and released, when I was there in mid 80's to late 90's I hardly saw the basic Black Tip Sharks around.....:dunno:like where did they all go?

According to the guys in the know, they reckon they are feeding on Sandsharks, Blue Rays, Juvenile Smooth Hound Sharks, and possibly juvenile Cob, which are kinda like Corvina/WSB....
There are also alot of squid in false bay, which I'm sure they don't say no to....

A few catches from the weekend Inter Club Compo....
One of the clubs alone got over 3 tons of Bronze Whalers ( All released ).... Over 80 Sharks came out in 10 hours of fishing.... Not a bad day...
Unfortunately, Nepps had to work, so I couldn't gt out there to shoot any pics which I am so bummed about.... It would have been an EPIC day to shoot on ..... Next time I guess...
